5 years at EMC this month. I've been passionate about every minute of it. I love this company. I believe in what I sell because EMC makes darn good products, and more importantly because of they way it takes care of its customers. I've seen allot of technical changes in just five years. It has been a wild ride. It is amazing the pace at which EMC and it's competitors are developing new technologies in this industry. I'm thankful God created people much smarter than I to develop solutions that provide value to my customers. My job is awesome!
I've always been proud to represent EMC, but I am so friggin excited about EMC's product line RIGHT NOW, it motivated me to start a blog. I've resisted the urge to blog for quite a while. I always loved to write, but I felt it may be a bit egotistical to assume someone else might be interested in reading. So I'm not going to write about myself, in fact I'm going to do just the opposite and humbly write about how blessed I am to be able to provide for my family doing what I do at EMC.
The entire product line is Awesome right now(prelude to sequel blogs), but a particular thought I had last night is what motivated me to start this adventure, so I will begin with EMC's midrange unified storage platform. I believe the greatest product I have represented in 5 years and I'm really excited about it.
I spend a fair amount of time competing with other storage vendors for my customers business. A new storage purchase is often a large and lengthy investment and not one that my customers ever take lightly. Often times during these competitive battles, I spend a good amount of time focusing on what my competitors do NOT do very well. Last night I thought about my competition from a different angle. I stopped to think about what it is that they do well. They all do something well, some of them do multiple things very well. I wont call them out by name, but for those reading in the industry, you can make your own guess about who I am talking about.
Some of my competitors support multiple protocols very well, some of their technology is very easy to manage, some of them are very highly available, some of them are strong at data de-duplication, some are very strong at tiering data for efficiency, some are very good at using cache for efficiency, some are very good with snapshots and data protection, some have very strong replication solutions, some of them have excellent customer support, some of them are good at thin provisioning for efficiency, some of them integrate well with applications and operating systems, some of them are good at getting the data on and off the disk in a hurry with consistent SLA's, some are good at adding resources to improve performance, some are good at providing multiple levels of data protection, some are good at protecting their customers investments, some of them scale really big.
If you are familiar with EMC's unified storage platform you may know where I'm going with this. It's a great time to be me at EMC because I know that now more than ever, EMC midrange unified storage does all of this well. We can do some of it if you like to keep it simple, or all of it, and one piece of goodness does not get in the way of the others. That is what is truly unique at EMC right now and that is why I am so excited. It isn't just because we don't have the pitfalls of the other guys, its because there is nothing we can not do and do well. It's in there!
Oh yeah, most importantly! Everyday and especially this weekend I'll remember EMC couldn't do anything without the great men and women of our Armed Forces past and present. Happy Memorial Day! Think about them while you are enjoying your way of life, that's why they do what they do.
